In a stunning and unexpected move just months ahead of Super Bowl LIX, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has reportedly banned Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and several high-profile celebrities from attending the championship event — a decision that has sparked fierce debate across political and entertainment circles.
According to insiders close to the Chiefs organization, Reid’s decision stems from what he described as a growing concern that the Super Bowl is becoming more “political theater than football.” In a press briefing following training camp Tuesday morning, Reid emphasized his desire to “keep the focus on the game, the players, and the fans who show up for football — not political stunts or media circuses.”

Though specific names haven’t all been confirmed, sources say the banned list includes AOC, a vocal progressive figure, as well as several Hollywood personalities known for making political statements during NFL events.
“This isn’t the Oscars,” Reid reportedly told local sports media. “If you want to make a political speech, do it somewhere else. This is football.”
The NFL has not yet commented on whether Reid’s statements will have any effect on official Super Bowl policies, as team staff do not control ticketing or VIP access to the event itself. Legal analysts note that unless enforced by the league, such a ban would be symbolic rather than official.
AOC responded within hours on X (formerly Twitter):
“Sorry, Coach — democracy isn’t something you can sideline. Also, I wasn’t planning to go.”
The controversy has since ignited a firestorm online, with hashtags like #SuperBowlBan and #LetHerWatch trending. While some fans applaud Reid’s focus on football, others accuse him of politicizing the very thing he claims to protect.
