What began as a heartbreaking farewell for a young girl and her loyal dog has turned into a chilling investigation that has stunned an entire Texas town.

Last week, during the devastating floods that swept through Trinity County, 9-year-old Emily Carter was reported to have drowned at a summer camp alongside her golden retriever, Scout.
