TEXAS — July 2025
A devastating scene unfolded in the heart of Texas this week as a historic, once-in-a-century flood engulfed a children’s summer camp, sweeping through cabins in the dead of night. Authorities confirm that dozens of children and staff members remain missing as rescue efforts continue around the clock.
What was meant to be a week of joy, laughter, and friendship under the stars turned into an unimaginable nightmare. Torrential rains struck suddenly, with walls of water overwhelming the campgrounds, dragging everything — and everyone — in its path.
Rescue crews from across the state have been deployed, but one hero has captured the nation’s heart: a K9 named Thor.

Amid the chaos, with currents strong enough to knock down grown men, Thor — a German Shepherd trained for disaster response — leapt into the swirling waters after hearing faint cries. Handlers screamed for him to wait, but he didn’t hesitate.
What happened next was caught on a bodycam that’s now been shared millions of times.
A child, no older than 8, was barely clinging to a piece of floating wood, her face barely above water. Thor swam against the current for nearly 50 yards, reached her just as she slipped under, and pulled her back to shore using his teeth to grip her jacket. First responders called it “a miracle in the middle of hell.”
But even as cheers erupted on the shoreline… tragedy struck again.
Moments later, a large tree, weakened by floodwater, collapsed onto a nearby boat carrying two rescue volunteers. Thor, still exhausted and bleeding from debris cuts, tried to pull one of them free before collapsing himself from sheer exhaustion.
The girl survived. One volunteer remains missing. Thor is now being treated by emergency veterinarians and is listed in serious but stable condition.
The campgrounds remain submerged.
Officials say time is running out to find the remaining missing. Families across Texas are gathering in shelters, waiting for names — any name — to be confirmed safe.
The flood has already been called one of the deadliest weather disasters in Texas history.
But even in the darkness, one battered K9 gave the world a glimpse of light — of loyalty, courage, and selflessness when it mattered most.
