In a stunning announcement that’s already sending ripples through the global tech industry, Elon Musk has officially unveiled the long-rumored Tesla Starlink Pi Phone—and the headline isn’t just about its advanced features. It’s the price: under $175.

Yes, you read that right.
The 2026 Tesla Starlink Pi Phone, revealed at a Tesla x SpaceX joint press event in Austin, Texas, aims to completely disrupt the smartphone market, which has long been dominated by Apple, Samsung, and Google. With an entry-level model reportedly priced at $174.99, consumers and analysts alike are asking: Is this the beginning of the end for Apple’s iPhone monopoly?
Combining Tesla’s innovation in hardware and SpaceX’s Starlink satellite technology, the Pi Phone is not just a phone—it’s a global communication hub. According to Musk, the device will offer native Starlink satellite connectivity, enabling internet access in remote areas with no cellular coverage; a solar-powered back panel for limited off-grid charging; a custom NeuralNet OS optimized for Tesla AI; deep integration with Tesla vehicles; quantum-encrypted messaging for next-level privacy; and even future compatibility with SpaceX’s Mars communication network.
The most shocking part of the announcement wasn’t the features—it was the price. While Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to debut this fall at $1,299, the Pi Phone undercuts it by more than $1,000.
“Elon just torpedoed the luxury smartphone model,” says tech analyst Raj Patel from TechCrunch. “You don’t price a phone this advanced at $174.99 unless you’re trying to take down giants.”
Sources inside Tesla say the aggressive pricing is part of Musk’s long-term strategy to democratize global internet access while using the phone as a gateway to Starlink subscriptions and future Tesla AI services.
Apple has yet to release an official statement, but internal leaks suggest the company is in crisis mode. According to a source at Cupertino, Apple executives convened an emergency strategy session within hours of Musk’s announcement. “It’s not just the specs—it’s the message: ‘We’re building the future, and it’s affordable,’” said the insider.
Stock market reactions were swift. Apple shares dropped 4.2% in after-hours trading, while Tesla surged 6.5%, fueled by investor excitement around the new ecosystem.

Early prototypes of the Pi Phone have been shown privately to select reviewers, and the first impressions are glowing. “This is the phone I’ve waited for all my life,” said Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) in a tweet. “The specs are insane, the build is sleek, and it connects to the freaking sky. Apple better bring more than USB-C this fall.”
Preorders are expected to begin this November, with official availability in Q1 2026.
At the event, Musk hinted that the Pi Phone is just the beginning. “Phones today are dumb,” he said. “What we’re building is a portal—to your car, your house, your robot, your world. The internet should not be limited to towers and providers. It should be everywhere, for everyone.”
Whether Apple can adapt or if this really marks the iPhone’s decline remains to be seen—but one thing’s for sure: Elon Musk has once again lit a fire under Silicon Valley.
