In a story that has shocked and inspired millions across the country, a German Shepherd named Max, once the victim of heartbreaking abuse at an animal shelter, has now become a national symbol of forgiveness, resilience, and hope.

It began with a hidden camera.
A concerned volunteer at the BrightHope Animal Shelter in Ohio had grown suspicious of the behavior of a staff member and placed a small surveillance camera in one of the kennels. What the footage revealed left animal lovers and authorities stunned—and sickened.
